Rachel Cook, a dear friend of mine, will be in town from NYC hosting a fundraiser and screening some footage from her film Microcapitalist: A Documentary About Enterprising Women. I will be displaying some recent work as well, the sale of which will help fund the remainder of their project.
The feature documentary, a global project that will be filmed on 4 continents as they shoot in Paraguay, Bangladesh, Kenya and in the United States, tells the story of women who are mothers, wives, daughters – and entrepreneurs. Armed with credit loaned in increments as small as $25, these women start and maintain their own businesses – selling handmade crafts, clothing, livestock, or coal for some examples – as they strive to find a new hope for the future and propel their families out of poverty.
Come see some of their footage from Paraguay as they take it on a fundraising “tour” to round out 2010!
