Trischa is a fierce friend who has been in my life for 15 years since we were paired randomly as flat mates in New Zealand. She is now settled with her partner and 2 beautiful children. When Trischa couldn’t explain her Illness to her little kiddo she decided to write a children’s book about a family of fish, which I had the great honour of illustrating. The illustrated children’s eBook is available in German and English. Please reach out to artist@kimleutwyler.com with enquiries about the illustrated book. To make a donation to support Trischa’s treatment and the care of her family, please visit gofundme.com/rjcu83-trischas-medical-expenses

Exhibiting with 100% proceeds going to LGBTIQ crisis & info counseling service, Switchboard Victoria

I am pleased to be participating in a 3-month virtual exhibition to benefit Switchboard Victoria.  The exhibition entitled “series 01 // love” is in response to the Marriage Equality debate in Australia and invites artists to submit works on the theme of love.  Artworks will comprise a set of postcards to be sold, with all proceeds going to Switchboard Victoria, an information and crisis counselling service for the LGBTIQ community who have seen a 25% rise in calls since the announcement of the postal vote.

The aim of this project is two-fold, i) to promote sharing of positive images in light of the hate messages and debate going on at present, and ii) to raise funds for Switchboard Victoria. Images are released weekly via http://www.facebook.com/cartooningwithpride, pre-order your set of postcards today!

– Curator Jimmy Twin

lhf_bannerFor the month of May I’d like to share an important organization, the Lesbian Health Fund.  I’m excited to be making a donation to the Lesbian Health Fund silent and live auctions taking place on June 1, 2017 in Burlington, VT.  I’ll be offering an 18″ x 24″ portrait of a single sitter, with LHF covering the costs of materials and shipping.

Misinformation, homophobia among health care providers, and a lack of scientific data on basic lesbian health needs result in dangerously inadequate health care for many lesbians and sexual minority women including bisexual women and trans women who partner with women.

The mission of the Lesbian Health Fund is to improve the health of lesbians and other sexual minority women (SMW) and their families through research. LHF has given over $864,000 to fund 113 research grants and is the only US research fund dedicated solely to the health needs of lesbians and other sexual minority women!

Funds raised from the event will enable LHF to dedicate itself to increasing the body of research focused on lesbian and sexual minority women.

Donating 50% from artwork sold to breast cancer prevention non-profit during October!

I shaved my hair and dyed it pink to spark a conversation reminding women to feel their boobs regularly! You can check out a video of my partner and I touring Sydney to remind women to feel their boobs in unexpected places! It’s pretty hilarious, check it out here 😉

We all know someone who’s been affected by cancer. There are thousands of non-profits out there selling pink ribbons and products during the month of October. Not everything with a pink ribbon is supporting research for a cure, says Gayle Sulik, author of Pink Ribbon Blues: How Breast Cancer Culture Undermines Women’s Health. Some of these products give no proceeds to cancer charities, but simply “raise awareness.”

Charity Navigator has identified five breast cancer charities where donations directly fund prevention research, education, and patient support.

These organizations have high levels of accountability, have successfully sustained their programs over time, and spend a high percentage of their revenue on programs and services rather than administrative or fundraising costs. – MONEY ‘How to Make the Biggest Impact With Your Breast Cancer Donations

After considering the list I’ve decided to support prevention research by donating 50% of the profits from my original artwork sold this month to Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation
